JUNE 4, 2012
In the three weeks since the #BlackOutSpeakOut campaign was launched by Canada’s leading environmental groups (Sierra Club Canada, CAPE, CPAWS, David Suzuki Foundation, Ecojustice, Environmental Defence, Equiterre, Greenpeace, Nature Canada, Pembina Institute, West Coast Environmental Law and WWF Canada) tens of thousands of Canadians from coast-to-coast-to-coast have joined us!
Margaret Atwood, Maude Barlow and Stephen Lewis have joined our campaign to stop the war on the environment and democracy, as well as more than 350 organizations including Amnesty International, Democracy Watch, CUPE and all four federal opposition parties [for a full list of participating organizations see here].
As promised this is your invitation to speak-out TODAY for nature and democracy by adding your name to the #BlackOutSpeakOut petition.
Why should you speak-out?
- Through a budget bill 35 years of environmental law and policy is being gutted without public debate;
- Government ministers and senators refer to environmentalists as: radical money laundering puppet of socialist billionaires, dupes of foreign interests and prepared to accept funds from terrorists.
Silence is Not an Option.
Our land, water, and climate are at stake. Our communities are at stake. Our human rights and democracy are at stake. Our children and grandchildren’s future is at stake.
Go to http://BlackOutSpeakOut.ca right now and sign the petition. After that you can call/email your MP and the Prime Minister and BE HEARD. Silence is no longer an option. You can identify your MP here using your postal code and find all MP contact information here.
In this historic Canadian moment, your voice has never been more important. Thank you for speaking out and for standing up for Canada.
P.S. - Did you know you can donate $10 to Sierra Club Canada by texting SIERRA to 45678 on your mobile phone? It’s simply added to your next phone bill. To donate $20 just do it twice, etc. You can also donate online via our secure website . We need you more than ever! If you can make a small donation today I promise I’ll make every dollar count. You have my word.
