For the second time in a row, Alberta’s Endangered Species Conservation Committee, a multi-stakeholder committee representing government, First Nations, industry, forestry, academia, ranchers, hunters and conservationists, has recommended that Alberta’s Grizzly Bear be listed as a Threatened species under the Wildlife Act.

It is now up to Sustainable Resource Development Minister Mel Knight to decide if the grizzly bear will be given the legal protection it needs.

The best available science estimates there are fewer than 360 mature breeding grizzly bears remaining in Alberta. But Minister Knight does not seem convinced that special protection is needed. To help him make this seemingly obvious decision he is asking his fellow cabinet members for their opinion. The government must quit playing politics with Alberta’s Great Bear!

This is Alberta’s chance to protect this iconic species. Help Minister Knight make the right decision! Please take a moment to call or write Minister Knight, Premier Ed Stelmch and your local MLA and tell them you fully support listing the grizzly bear as Threatened.
