In war, first disrupt communications …
Submitted by John Bennett on Fri, 2011-10-14 09:51We got the word last night. The federal government won't be funding the Canadian Environmental Network (CEN) any more. The network consists of 600 groups from coast to coast to coast.

The news came about the same time Heritage Minister James Moore tweeted the announcement of his new War of 1812 iPhone App - part of a $29 million program to celebrate a 200 year old war.
CEN is a coordinating body that doesn't take stands. It just helps environmental organizations network and facilitates communication with the federal government. It’s the very definition of non-partisan. ... Read more »

Homecoming Leg: Vancouver to Vernon!
Submitted by Liam Wacey on Sat, 2010-07-31 17:23Thursday, July 15th, Day Fifty-Four: I woke up this day feeling good abut what I had done, and what I still had left to do. The bike was boxed up, I did it the night before after a huge victory dinner, so all that was left was to pack up the rest of my stuff. First, though, I wanted a picture in the ocean to finish my trip. When I visited the Sierra Club Atlantic office to check my email however, everyone decided it was time for a good office lunch, so we all went down to eat. It was a good meal, and it was nice to really be introduced to everyone and just relax with like-minded individuals. By the time it was over however, I had to rush home to do my packing, since the guy who was going to take me to my plane was due to arrive by about 4:00 PM. Another nice guy, we had lots to talk about on the way to the airport.... Read more »
Riding for a trip to remember
When a long journey brings you to your destination, you can not help but reflect on the good times you were blessed with, and the bad times you endured.
My cross-Canada ride has been at times so difficult I thought of nothing more than giving up and going home, and at others I knew there was no place in the world I would rather be than right where I was. For instance, I was lucky enough to start in British Columbia, which means that I was forced to move at a slower pace as my legs and mind became accustomed to the challenges of the road.
Liam Wacey adds homecoming leg to cross-Canada bike tour
After seven weeks biking across Canada to raise awareness of Sierra Club Canada's wilderness and biodiversity campaigns, Liam Wacey has added one final leg to his "Cycles of Change" tour. After completing the easternmost leg of the tour in Halifax, Liam plans to add a final ride from Vancouver to his hometown of Vernon, BC.
"I hope bringing this tour to my hometown will help create a buzz that spreads the word about Sierra Club Canada's activities," said Mr. Wacey. "It's been a gruelling journey, but also a success since I've been able to highlight the concerns of the environment."
Liam will leave Vancouver on July 17. He plans to travel via the Hope-Princeton Highway, stopping in Penticton on July 19 and arriving in Vernon on July 20.
He will be available to arrange interviews throughout the trip.
