Sierra Club Canada to host Eco Echo Benefit Concert at Black Sheep Inn

WAKEFIELD--Sierra Club Canada will be hosting a benefit concert held this Thursday, March 25 at the Black Sheep Inn in Wakefield to raise awareness about sustainable economies and the Eco Echo community project.  Ottawa band The Pelts will be joined by special guests Brasstronaut and Glenn Nuotio for a musical extravaganza in support of the Eco Echo Outaouais Environmental Campus.

Sierra Club Canada is joining the campaign to save the not-for-profit Outaouais environmental campus Eco Echo from being expropriated by the Municipality of La Peche, QC.  The Municipality recently revealed plans for an expanded 100-acre industrial park at the entrance to Wakefield. To do so, it would have to expropriate and permanently destroy private land already in use for the eco-development project, Eco Echo.

When: Thursday, Mar 25th, 8:30 pm
Where: Black Sheep Inn, Wakefield QC.
Bands: The Pelts, Brasstronaut, Glenn Nuotio

Background:

Eco Echo has been actively using this land since April 2008 for community workshops and the Wakefield Organic Fruit Co-operative.   The group plans this year to expand its programs to include organic farming demonstrations, youth job training, nature camps, a spectacular outdoor amphitheatre, and more.

Eco Echo supports citizens throughout the Gatineau and Ottawa area with exceptional learning opportunities that inspire environmental and community stewardship and offer models for sustainable living.  Eco Echo seeks active partnerships with the private, public and third sectors, forging collaborations that result in sustainable solutions and programmes.

Eco Echo serves as an outdoor learning and research campus to engage rural youth in their community, using a cross-generational and cross-cultural approach that honours and supports strong rural values.

Upcoming Programs:

Plans include a 400-seat outdoor acoustical amphitheater for dance, theater, music and family performances, a permanent location for the orchards of the Wakefield Organic Fruit Cooperative, and individual plots for community supported agriculture in the lower farmlands adjacent to the wetlands along the highway.
We invite you to get engaged with the future of our community!
