Upcoming Events--Save the Blanding's Turtle

Wednesday, May 12 -- 7:00 to 9:00 pm -- Kanata, Elections 2010, and the Environment
The next municipal election is coming up in October.  Ecology Ottawa has organized this forum as a way for Kanata residents to speak up about environmental issues such as flood-plain development, green space, mass transit, and so forth.  Malack Centre, Hall D, 2500 Campeau Drive, Kanata

Sunday, May 16 -- 1:00 pm -- Walk on the Land  – Coalition to Protect the South March Highlands -- Hike along Kizzel Creek marshland to attempt to sight Blanding’s turtle.  Meet at parking lot on Goulbourn Forced road near the Beaver Pond at 1 pm.  The walk will take place rain or shine, so dress accordingly and with proper footwear for hiking in the woods. This will be an easy hike, suitable for families.

Sunday, May 23 -- World Turtle Day -- A day for people to celebrate and protect turtles and tortoises and their disappearing habitats around the world.  An important day to take action.  Write a letter, tweet a lot, make some noise!

Sunday, May 30 -- 1:00 pm -- Walk on the Land  – Coalition to Protect the South March Highlands -- Hike to Heron Pond which is the largest body of water in the South March Highlands.  Hike will leave at 1pm from TBD location in Morgan’s Grant after first distributing flyers to raise awareness about the increased traffic volume caused by the road expansion.  The walk will take place rain or shine, so dress accordingly and with proper footwear for hiking in the woods.  This will be a longer hike than the one on May 16.
