TVO Green Heroes Series recognizing Canadian Icon Farley Mowat and Activist Mary Gorman
Sierra Club Canada invites all Canadians to celebrate the legacy of author Farley Mowat and activist Mary Gorman by watching the TVO Green Heroes series Saving Oceans, Tuesday, July 16 at 7:30 pm and Sunday July 21 at 8:30 pm on TVO.
"I think all Canadians should celebrate the contribution of Farley Mowat to Canada and the world and it is wonderful that TVO is celebrating his record for inspiring love of nature and our obligation to protect it," according to John Bennett, Executive Director of Sierra Club Canada.
Author of numerous classic novels like Never Cry Wolf and the Boat that WOuldn't Float, as well as an autobiographical account of his wartime years, Farley Mowat has dedicated his life to reigniting our connection to the living world and calling on people to take responsibility for the impact their activities have on wildlife. Along with activist Mary Gorman of Merigomish, Nova Scotia, he is dedicated to the protecting the Gulf of St. Lawrence from oil and gas development.
"Mary and Farley are truly heroic for taking on the fossil fuel industry to protect the precious and irreplaceable Gulf of St. Lawrence," according to Gretchen Fitzgerald, Director of the Atlantic Canada Chapter of Sierra Club. "I nominated Mary as a Green Hero because I know there is no one more committed to protecting the Gulf that she is, and I know the blood, sweat and tears that she pours into her volunteer work day after day. I really look forward to the TVO documentary, because more people should know about Mary's efforts and join her in protecting the Gulf."
Ms. Gorman was selected as a Green Hero from candidate nominate from across the country. The documentary TVO Green Heros documentary was filmed in recognition of her accomplishments as A Green Hero.
