Walks Schedule for Summer 2014

After much delay and with great excitement, we're happy to announce the 2014 summer walk schedule for Halifax Diverse Walks. We have a wide range of experts who will be leading walks this year from birding to the history of McNabs Island! Updates will be posted on the facebook page (and corresponding events), and on this blog as well. On this page you can find more information about individual events by selecting individual events under the "Get Involved" menu above. You might also notice we've changed our name to reflect the recent decision of the city council. A huge thanks to Jon Burke of Jon Burke Web Design for updating our logo.

Some general information about what to expect on our Walks:

  • Our walks are generally focused more on talking than walking, if you have any concerns about walking ability, get in touch with us at halifaxdiverse -at- gmail.com
  • Our experts are usually volunteers with a passion for the subject matter! Bring your questions and they will likely be glad to provide some information
  • All walks have limited capacity due to the impracticality of large groups in nature. Arrive to our walks early for a guaranteed spot
  • Some walks would be best enjoyed with specific equipment (binoculars, etc.). Have a careful look at the event page before setting out for our adventure.

We're excited to get under way with our first walk this summer with Kate Steele from the NS Bird Society. Kate will be leading a birding walk for beginners at the Shearwater Flyer Trail, starting at 8:30am, Sunday, June 1st (the exact location will be announced closer to the date). We're extremely appreciative that Kate has decided to take time out of her schedule to share her wealth of information about birds with us! This walk will have a limit of 16-20 people, so get there early to ensure you get a spot. If you don't, it's a wonderful trail to enjoy on your own as well and has a bounty of treasures to discover along the way.
