Protecting Marine Areas from the Threat of Oil and Gas Development

The energy onslaught has opened up on all three coasts.

In Atlantic Canada, oil and gas development in the areas 100 miles from shore are now moving in to the most sensitive marine zones in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.  Seismic testing along Cape Breton and Quebec coastlines area a threat to Blue, Right, and minke whales, numerous species of dolphin and the endangered Leatherback Turtle.

Meanwhile, in British Columbia, the provincial government is striving to lift a moratorium that has protected those coasts from oil and gas development for more than thirty years.  The extremely sensitive Queen Charlottes Basin is at risk.

Any pipeline from on-land gas fields in the Mackenzie Delta will increase pressures for drilling in the Beaufort Sea.
