Dear Ms. Lemay,
On behalf of the Sierra Club Canada, I would like to commend the National Capital Commission for the recent agreement to acquire the Carman Road property and by doing so, protecting the ecological integrity of the park and preventing development within the Gatineau Park boundaries. Sierra Club Canada recognizes this as a very positive indication the NCC intends to prevent further development within the park.
There is clearly a need for legislative protection for Gatineau Park and greater financial resources to complete the private property inventory and acquire the properties according to the Master Plan. The ecological pressures on this national treasure continue to increase and the matters of legislative protection and land acquisitions are urgent.
Congratulations on this concrete move to protect Gatineau Park in the public interest.
