Liberal Government Accepts Pro-Oil Amendments to Bill C-69
REGULATORS CAN NOW CHAIR REVIEW PANELS!

K’jipuktuk/Halifax: The federal government has rejected a number of amendments from the Senate, but not all. Life cycle regulator appointees can now chair review panels. The four life cycle regulators mentioned in the Bill C-69 are the Newfoundland and Nova Scotia Petroleum Boards, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and the new Canadian Energy Regulator.

TORONTO, Ont - Sierra Club Canada Foundation welcomes the Government of Canada's announcement of national actions to combat on plastic pollution. The federal government announced today that it would ban certain single-use plastics by 2021 and work to make plastic producers responsible for the waste they produce.

 

This Bill Cannot Stand. Rescue The New Impact Assessment Act Before It's Too Late.

In spite of what has been referred to as a "flood" of evidence from fishing organizations, indigenous leaders, and environmental groups, the Senate has voted down an amendment to fix the new Impact Assessment Act, Bill C-69.

The amendment proposed by Senator Cordy in response to overwhelming criticism of the Bill from Atlantic Canadians, would have prevented offshore boards from chairing assessment panels that will determine where, when, and if oil drilling will go ahead in Canada's Atlantic waters.

Groups Condemn Plan To Exempt Nuclear Reactors From Bill C-69

Ottawa, May 7, 2019 — The Government of Canada is proposing that the "project list" for Bill C-69, the Impact Assessment Act, exempt many nuclear reactors from any environmental assessment.  Civil society groups are condemning the exemption from environmental assessment under Bill C-69 and demanding that all new nuclear reactors be subjected to formal environmental assessment, as is now the case.
