OTTAWA -- Sierra Club Canada is warning president Obama not to take Prime Minister Harper's new climate change offer seriously.
“Canada's climate change record since 2006 has been a disaster - nothing more than slick public relations designed to mislead and confuse Canadians and the international community,” said John Bennett, Executive Director of Sierra Club Canada. "I don't believe for a moment that Prime Minister Harper is serious and neither should President Obama. The Harper government has done nothing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Ontario’s oldest nuclear plant pleads its case this week for a few more years of active life.
But nuclear skeptics say it’s time to bring down the axe on the Pickering nuclear station.
It’s an old debate that pits hardened nuclear campaigners such as Greenpeace against low-profile supporters such as the Pickering Soccer Club.
It comes to a head because the Pickering station’s operating license runs out this year. But Ontario Power Generation, which owns and operates the plant, wants to keep the station running until about 2020.
The company wants to continue the operation without doing an environmental impact assessment, and without performing a major overhaul of the aging station.
Southwestern Energy (SWN) Resources is suing New Brunswick citizens attempting to protect their land, air, and water from the impacts of fracking by protesting seismic testing. In addition to naming 13 individuals, SWN named “Jane Doe” and “John Doe” as being responsible for costs they are claiming are caused by protestors. This Wednesday in Moncton, Jane Doe will speak out in response to SWN’s suit.
OTTAWA – This afternoon, President Obama gave what may turn out to be one of the most important speeches in American history - certainly the most important on the topic of climate change and the environment.
“President Obama denied the ‘deniers’ and inspired Americans and people around the world to address the most urgent crisis of our day: climate change,” said John Bennett, Executive Director of Sierra Club Canada.
The Long-Term Energy Plan review now underway in Ontario demands our attention despite its sleep-inducing name. The choices the Wynne government makes will affect your pocket book, our economic competitiveness and the health of our environment.
