Some media outlets are using the argument that the policy that was leaked is not yet final, so we shouldn't be so upset. The crux of the matter is that the Alberta Water Council, made up of reps from 25 different sectors (including forestry, agriculture, the Alberta Government, etc) took 4 years to come to consensus on recommendations to the AB government that were finally submitted a year ago. That report was thorough, and made solid recommendations --ie: no net loss of wetlands, forcing companies to return wetlands to their natural state. The fact that this leaked document from the Alberta Government shows the recommendations have already been weakened shows that the Alberta Government is listening primarily to the oil and gas sectors, and not to the rest of Albertans.
