Invitation to Can-EU FTA discussions in Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal

If you are concerned with how sweeping free trade negotiations between Canada and the European Union may affect public services, labour rights, environmental policy, culture, economic development, food policy, water services, and more, then please read on.
We would like to invite you to an important event on the Canada-European Union comprehensive economic and trade negotiations. We wish to invite discussion on the largest, most intrusive free trade deal that Canada has ever entered into. Negotiations are progressing quickly, with little public scrutiny.
Canada is offering to make commitments that go beyond NAFTA and the WTO. On the table are chapters on services and investment, domestic regulation and standards, public procurement, and intellectual property rights.

Prentice Tells Another Whopper!
Ottawa--Sierra Club Canada wishes it were surprised by the government’s announcement to lower Canada's emissions target for the second time in four years. Yesterday Minister Prentice lowered the target to 17%.
"While the government is off on their vacation, they’re busying themselves by lowering to another meaningless target. It has always been the intention of this government to ignore the climate crisis and do nothing about it,” said John Bennett, Executive Director of Sierra Club Canada. "The only thing interesting here is the numerous ways in which they try to mislead Canadians."
Over 150,000 Canadians and 150 organizations signed the Kyotoplus petition calling for an emission reduction plan to reduce emissions 25 % below 1990 levels by 2020--the target necessary to avoid catastrophic climate changes.
