John Bennett

John Bennett is a well known and outspoken climate change activist oft quoted in the media. He is in daily contact with environmentalists in Canada and around the world. His long career includes stops at Greenpeace, Climate Action Network and Climateforchange.ca.

John spearheaded SCC’s global warming campaign from 1998 - 2006. In this role he displayed leadership, insight and inventiveness, qualities that will once again benefit the Club as he leads the way forward.

Howie Chong

Howie Chong is the President and Founder of Carbonzero, one of Canada’s leading full-service greenhouse gas emissions management companies.

A certified emissions expert, Howie has been working with companies and organizations for nearly decade in helping them assess and manage their environmental footprint in greenhouse gas emissions accounting, carbon markets and international climate policy.

Geert de Cock

Geert is doing a Ph.D. in Political Science at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. His studies focus on the European Union’s foreign and security policy on climate change.

He has been involved with the Prairie Chapter of the Sierra Club by raising the profile of environmental issues in the last provincial and federal elections and by making several presentations about the tar sands in Brussels to European environmental NGOs. He has previous professional experience in the NGO sector as a Policy Officer for a Brussels-based NGO focusing on social policy issues.

Emily Rideout

Emily is studying Environmental Science and International Development at Dalhousie University in Halifax and is focusing her studies on climate change and water management issues.

Emily represented Sierra Club Canada at the UN Climate Change Negotiations in Poznan Poland last year where she kept a blog, lobbied Canadian politicians and liaised with the Canadian Youth Delegation, Canadian ENGO’s and the media.
