The International Joint Commission (IJC) has released their water levels management plan – called Plan Bv7 – for Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River, and your voice needs to be heard! The new plan will restore more natural water flows, make significant progress in protecting the health of the River and Lake, and also provide greater economic opportunities for industry and continuing to provide protection for shoreline property owners from erosion and flooding.

Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River have been severely compromised for over fifty years by environmentally damaging water levels regulation under a plan called 1958 D with Deviations. Since 2000, the IJC has been working to develop an approach to water level regulation that would better suit the environmental and economic needs of the region.  After a solid decade of work and extensive public comment the IJC has developed such a plan- Plan Bv7- that will finally return water flows on Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River to more natural levels, representing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to restore a massive swath of costal ecosystems (over 13,000 acres) and the health of the lake and river.
