Copenhagen Climate Bill Pedal for the Planet The Latest News
C-311 SCC Campaigns The Latest News

Fast track Bill C-311!

Sierra Club Canada and other environmental and justice groups are urging MPs of all political stripes to fast-track their consideration of a landmark global warming bill that is currently in the House of Commons Environment Committee.

Bill C-311, the Climate Change Accountability Act, is essential to restoring Canada’s credibility at the UN climate negotiations that are scheduled to wrap up in Copenhagen in December.

The current version of the Climate Change Accountability Act passed second reading in the House of Commons on April 1 and was referred to the Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development.

Two and a half months later, committee members began consideration of C-311 on June 18. To make progress in time for the Copenhagen climate talks, all parties must cooperate to move the bill through committee stage quickly and return it the House for a final vote as soon as possible. Lend your voice today.

From Canada to Copenhagen: Pedal for the Planet

A new climate treaty will be negotiated during international climate talks in Copenhagen, Denmark, December 7-18, 2009. Canada now stands out as one of the last major industrialized countries opposed to targets for deep reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and one of the biggest blockers of climate change negotiations.

Take Action on Climate Change!

Pedal for the Planet brought individuals, organizations and communities together, to ensure that Canada does its fair share to tackle the climate crisis.

It all kicked off from Whitehorse, St. John’s, Victoria and Vancouver. Starting from the Atlantic coast, they've crossed Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. In the west, they have crossed British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Cyclists converged on Parliament Hill September 15th, relaying our expectations for a Copenhagen climate treaty on to Ottawa.
