We are seeking a dedicated and outgoing individual to help increase the reach and impact of our wildlife collisions prevention program, Watch for Wildlife (http://www.watchforwildlife.ca). The objective of the Watch for WIldlife is to prevent collisions with wildlife and people on our roads and to encourage the implementation of wildlife-friendly road design and vehicle collision mitigation measures. Since Moncton NB is located near a key pinch point for wildlife migration (the Chignecto Isthmus), this position is strategically located to highlight this issue for drivers and the general public.
Eligibility
This position is partially funded by Service Canada's Canada Summer Jobs program. Successful applicants will need to meet the following criteria:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the job;
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally employed and be entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

Compensation
This is a seasonal employment opportunity, 9-week contract for 30 hrs a week and $14 hourly wage. Phone and internet allowance are provided.
Location: Moncton, New Brunswick - This position will require you to work from a home office and perform online outreach unless in-person events are possible.
Start Date: Ideal start date is June 7th.
Tasks
- providing education to the public through attending events, markets, community meetings, festivals etc. and educational
- online presentations
- develop media releases and radio announcements in French, writing articles and being a spokesperson for the program in New Brunswick
- traveling to different events, meetings and outreach opportunities
- write blogs on wildlife collision prevention for the Watch for Wildlife website (http://www.watchforwildlife.ca)
- contribute to social media posts (Facebook, Twitter)
- develop an understanding of the impacts of wildlife-vehicle
- collisions on people (health and psychological impacts), the economy (insurance, health, collision repair costs), and wildlife
- develop an awareness of species at risk species in New Brunswick
- engage with potential project partners and stakeholder groups (such as tourism associations, drivers education programs, car rental agencies, bus driver associations, environmental groups, fishing and hunting groups and animal rescue organizations)
- Assist with project reporting on activities (ie: educational materials disseminated, number of people engaged)
Qualifications
This is a summer position funded by Service Canada's Canada Summer Jobs. Please see above to see if you are eligible.
- Must have valid Driver’s License
- Fluent in both French and English
- Confidence in communicating directly with the public
- A full-time student in an accredited post-secondary institution or a graduating grade 12 student who is enrolled full-time in a university or college program in the coming fall term.
- Studying Planning, Environment and Resource Management, Biology, Wildlife Management, Public Relations, Environmental Education Environmental Technology, Road Ecology, Communications, Engineering or a related field
- Adept in Microsoft Office or MacOS (Word, Excel, or Pages, etc.) programs ¿ Proficiency in web and social media platforms (Twitter,
- Facebook, Wordpress, etc.)
- Genuine interest in learning about road ecology, habitat connectivity, wildlife rehabilitation, and driver safety; and communicating knowledge gained to adults and young drivers
