The Board of Directors of Sierra Club Canada Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Diane Beckett as Interim Executive Director. Ms. Beckett brings decades of involvement in the non-profit sector to this newly created position. Former National Program Director, John Bennett, assumes the role of National Spokesperson.
“I’m pleased we can begin a new chapter for Sierra Club Canada Foundation with Diane (Beckett) at the helm and retain the voice and experience of John (Bennett). We have the right team in place,” said Michael Bernard, President of Sierra Club Canada Foundation.
Diane Beckett brings leadership, passion and commitment to her new position as Interim Executive Director of the Sierra Club Canada Foundation. She has extensive experience working with environmental organizations at the community, provincial, and national level in Canada, as well as internationally.
“I am honoured to join the Sierra Club Canada Foundation and become part of such an effective grassroots organization, which serves as an important voice for the environment. I am looking forward to working with the staff, the board and our many wonderful local volunteer groups that are the very heart of the Sierra Club Canada Foundation,” said Ms. Beckett.
She has a broad range of experience in environmental research, policy, management and advocacy for civil society organizations, governments, universities and the United Nations. Her work has taken her to many parts of Canada and countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America to promote environmental sustainability, in the form of action for climate justice, low carbon energy futures, urban environmental solutions, wilderness protection, organic food and eco-agriculture, and connecting children to nature.
A passion for the environment runs deeply through Diane's personal life as well. She loves farmers’ markets, urban cycling and being in nature. She cross-country skies until the last smidgen of snow has disappeared in the Gatineau Hills near her Ottawa home. She has canoed the Nahanni, and trekked in the Nepalese Himalayas and the Thai rainforest
