Environmental Assessments

An environmental assessment is a legal safety net that ensures governments and developers think ahead. The assessment process produces detailed reports that contain vital information on the short-term and long-term environmental pros and cons of development projects.

Governments must have thorough, comprehensive environmental assessments in order to make informed decisions. Without them they are effectively blind to best evidence and cannot choose best course in the public interest.

Unfortunately, Canada’s environment is no longer protected after the federal government gutted this country’s principle protection laws. These include the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act and the Canadian Fisheries Act.

We’re working to get Canada’s safety net back. And then we’ll work to make them stronger than ever.
