Charlottetown Earth Week Expo, Apr. 27

The Earth Week Expo on Saturday April 27th [Save the Frogs Day!]

INCLUDING the Launch of this terrific DIZOLVE fundraising campaign

12 noon- 4 pm

Murphy's Community Centre, 200 Richmond St. Charlottetown

The 2013 Earth Expo promises to be a fun filled experience for all ages, with lots of activities supporting environmental action and awareness. There will be information booths, live music, activities and displays from noon to 4 pm.

Activities for all ages include: art tables with materials provided; Water Wizardry; a reading tent (with Earth-Day themed books); music; and an Earth Promise Tree (young and old hang their messages for The Earth on the Tree). April 27 is also 'Save the Frogs' Day! [Earth Day itself is Apr 22.]

There will be nature art and photography from schools and local artists and the 3rd Annual 'Clothesline Art' Installation to mark International Hanging Out Day, which celebrates the active beauty of clotheslines. As the organizers of Hanging Out Day say, “Why waste fossil fuels or electricity to dry your clothes, when you can use a solar-wind power dryer!"

There will also be a panel of community organizers, politicians, business leaders, students and academics who will present "Idea for a Sustainable Future" - a light-hearted exploration of solutions from diverse fields to help our society continue towards social justice and environmental sustainability. Nine presenters will have 10 minutes each to present an important idea, and attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and offer rebuttals after each presenter.

While there are plenty of environmental challenges on PEI, there are many Islanders working on environmental solutions which will be highlighted at this Expo. The cumulative effect of these actions is making a real difference. Many young people are involved and given the opportunity to share their enthusiasm, while learning about sustainable technologies and actions that can lead to a greener PEI lifestyle. This Expo is part of the Canada-wide Earth Week celebrations. Each year on average more than 6 million Canadians join 1 billion people in over 170 countries in staging activities and projects to address local environmental issues.

The 2013 Earth Week Expo is sponsored by Metro Credit Union, Ooka Island, and Tink 'n Ginger Salon Boutique; and presented by the PEI branch of Sierra Club Canada, the ECO Change Co-op, and the Murphy's Community Centre Youth Programs.
