Steven Guilbeault & Justin Trudeau, thank you for making the plastic ban a reality!

[Version française ici]

The Canadian government recently passed a ban on six single use plastic items — including checkout bags, cutlery, foodservice ware made from or containing problematic plastics that are hard to recycle, ring carriers, stir sticks and straws.

This is a great first step for Canada and we want to send a thank you to Minister Guilbeault and the Prime Minister for making it a reality!

Humans have created a plastic crisis and now we need to see legislation that tackles plastic waste and supports a liveable future for us before it’s too late.

We know that this ban is only the first step. A lot more needs to be done to tackle the global plastic crisis and we are excited to continue working to push for real action on plastic. For starters, this ban should be applied to more plastic products. Hot and cold beverage containers, produce bags, and condiment sachets are just a few more items that need to be added to the list.

Politicians need to know that further steps will be equally welcomed! So please also make it clear this ban needs to be expanded to include more plastic items!
