Join Lush and Watch for Wildlife - Saturday, Aug. 19 in Dartmouth, NS

Please join us this Saturday, August 19, anytime between noon-4pm, as Watch for Wildlife NS and Lush Mic Mac Mall in Dartmouth host an Awareness Day about preventing wildlife vehicle collisions.

Watch for Wildlife and Lush staff will be on site to share tips for preventing collisions and to give out brochures and free bumper magnets to put on your car as a reminder to others to Watch for Wildlife while driving. The event will also celebrate support for Watch for Wildlife through the Lush Charity Pot giving program. Thanks Lush!

We know road collisions are taking a significant toll on wildlife. A recent study of collisions with deer performed by the Natural Resources and Environmental Technology Program at the Nova Scotia Community College in Bridgewater showed that since 2007 there have been over 1,000 collisions in Lunenburg county alone. To say nothing of collisions with turtles, birds, and other small animals that are more difficult to track.

We are asking our members and supporters to show support for the program by coming out to meet program staff and volunteers. We’d also like you to post a picture of yourself with the magnet on your vehicle using the hashtag #watchforwildlifens.

The Watch for Wildlife program promotes safe driving tips and numbers to call if you see injured or dead wildlife on our roadways. We also are asking for volunteers who would be willing and comfortable doing so, to post pictures of wildlife collisions on the citizen science website, iNaturalist here. This way, we will begin to get an idea of where and when wildlife collisions happen and work to prevent them in future.

Come out this Saturday and show your love for wildlife, animal welfare and safe driving.

Hope to see you there,

Gretchen Fitzgerald - National Program Director
