Join Watch for Wildlife at the Lush store in Dartmouth this Saturday!

Lush event

Please join us this Saturday, July 21st, anytime between noon-4pm, as Watch for Wildlife NS and Lush Mic Mac Mall in Dartmouth host an Awareness Day about preventing vehicle-collisions with wildlife.

Watch for Wildlife and Lush staff will be at the store on Saturday to share tips about how to prevent and respond to collisions with wildlife on the road, and give out brochures and free bumper magnets. The event will also celebrate the Lush Charity Pot giving program and its support of Watch for Wildlife. Charity Pots featuring Watch for Wildlife will be available for sale with 100% of profits going to charities like ours.

Watch for Wildlife is one of Sierra Club Canada Foundation’s wildlife protection programs now in its third year delivering wildlife-vehicle collision prevention education in Nova Scotia, and it has just expanded to New Brunswick (again, with the help of Lush Charity Pot). The program is resonating as important and timely with law enforcement, Departments of Natural Resources and Transportation, wildlife rescues, wildlife conservation organizations and researchers. Tens of thousands of wild creatures, from amphibians and birds to deer and moose, are injured and killed on our roads every year. On the other side of the wheel, hundreds of people are injured and a small number are killed in collisions with wildlife, though many of these collisions could be prevented.

We are asking our members and supporters to show support for the program by coming out to meet program staff, and to help promote awareness of this issue by displaying one of the program’s magnets on the bumper of your vehicle.

We also are asking for volunteers to get involved with our INaturalist Watch for Wildlife collision tracking project. For information about the INaturalist project go to: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/watch-for-wildlife-wildlife-vehicle...

Come out to the Lush Store in MicMac Mall this Saturday and show your love for wildlife, animal welfare and safe driving.

Hope to see you there,

Gretchen Fitzgerald - National Program Director
