We are offering the following short term position
Indigenous Environmental Researcher in Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) Territory
Start Date: June 21, 2021
Remuneration: $ 18 hour plus cell phone/internet reimbursement of $60 month
Hours: 23 hours / week for 9 weeks
Location: Ontario, principally working from home, with preference for those in Thunder Bay - Lake Superior area to facilitate travel within NAN territory as needed.
Candidate will be required to work from a home office if travel is required it will be compensated.

Tasks and Responsibilities
Our Environmental Science Communications Specialists will be tasked with:
- Researching and creating outreach materials to increase community
- engagement and public education related to the Environmental BIll of Rights
- Developing relationships with stakeholders
- Writing for the public on their rights and responsibilities related to natural resource protection.
- Administering communications in different media, including web posting, social media and online meetings & presentations. (Training will be provided.)
Successful candidates will have:
- Fluency in Oji-Cree or Cree is preferred
- Strong environmental science background
- Understanding of regional issues
- Understanding of Indigenous issues especially re: Treaty 9, and the Far North Act
- Strong computer skills. Experience using Google docs, word processing and spreadsheets
- Communications skills – must be confident in written and verbal communication
- Self-directed ability to work independently
- Mapping /geographic information systems skills also desirable
- Must meet criteria for Canada Summer Jobs: a) be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment; b) be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*; and c) be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.
