Single Use Plastic Ban Announcement (Media Statement) - Sierra Club Canada Foundation

For Immediate Release December 21st, 2021

"This is encouraging news, and will prevent unnecessary plastic pollution and first step toward refusing plastic waste." says Gretchen Fitzgerald, National Programs Director with the Sierra Club Canada Foundation.

"We also need to expand this ban to include all unnecessary items of single use plastic, and we expect this list to be expanded in the New Year. From announcement to implementation, this ban will take three years to come into force. With every day the government stalls, we are missing an opportunity to halt tonnes of plastic pollution from being dumped in the environment."

People have spoken loudly and clearly that they want our government to go ahead with this ban. Just this week our supporters have been directly calling on Minister Guilbeault to enact a single-use plastic ban, now: https://www.sierraclub.ca/en/node/3938

The biodiversity of our planet is under attack every day. When it comes to plastic pollution we don't have three more years to waste and this ban is already overdue.
