Sierra Club Canada Launches New Strategic Plan for Nature, Justice, and Democracy

Media Release: For Immediate Release, September 22nd, 2026

Today Sierra Club Canada has publicly launched their new Strategic Plan for the organization up to 2029. Entitled Nature, Justice, and Democracy the organization states its mission over these next few years will be to:

• Unite people and communities to defend nature through justice-driven, democratic action.
• Cultivate hope, belonging, and leadership by boldly pursuing new strategies and amplifying unheard voices.

“This is really about meeting the moment by placing nature at the centre of how we build a society that is truly more resilient, democratic, and just,” says Gretchen Fitzgerald, Executive Director of Sierra Club Canada. “The strategic plan builds on the tools and strengths that make Sierra Club Canada great, our ability to connect people, communities, and movements with each other. It aims to help people move away from fear-based responses to see that the only way we can address the crises we find ourselves in is to address them in an interconnected way.”

Sierra Club Canada sees crises present in issues of democracy, biodiversity and nature, and environmental and social justice as deeply interconnected. The club argues that fixing these issues means understanding how they connect with each other.
