Tell The Government To Invest In Our One Earth.

We are facing a climate emergency and a biodiversity crisis.

Canadians are already experiencing floods, fires, ecological disruption and as our planet continues to warm, our collective well-being is deeply under threat.

There is still time to chart a course to a safe future for all - but we won’t be able to stop this crisis without federal investments in climate action and nature conservation and biodiversity protection.

To get it done, the government needs to commit sufficient funding in the upcoming federal budget, or risk losing critical time in the race for our planet’s health.

It all starts by telling your MP to make good on their promise to protect our environment and the health of Canadians.

This is the most critical moment of the year for our environment, where the federal government puts money where our priorities are. We can’t afford to not have climate and nature be among them.

Your voice is needed to let them know that we need them to invest in our one earth.

The Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Environment and Climate Change Minister and The Honourable Bill Morneau, Minister of Finance and my Member of Parliament,

I am calling on you to ensure climate and biodiversity investments in the upcoming budget of at least:

a) investments to achieve nature protection commitments on land, freshwater, and oceans, including over $900 million Indigenous-led conservation and stewardship programs
b) $665 million to increase climate action in Canada including new investments in energy efficiency, electric vehicles, and renewable energy
c) $2.9 billion to support climate mitigation and adaptation in developing countries. This is Canada’s fair share of industrialized countries’ US$100-billion commitment to international climate financing under the Paris Agreement 
d) $4.5 million over three years to develop a National Wildlife Collision Reporting System to prevent collisions with wildlife on our roadways.

And, will you phase out fossil fuel subsidies and non-tax support, which will save Canadians several hundred million dollars? Our government’s fiscal policies must align with Canada’s climate and nature commitments.

These are the expert recommendations of Canada's leading environmental organizations in the Green Budget Coalition. 
I’m also urging you to lay out a long-term investment plan for reducing Canada’s dependence on fossil fuels, moving Canada toward a low-carbon future by 2030 and reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050. To make this possible, we need funding invested in the industries and workers who will be affected so they can benefit from the shift to a zero-carbon economy.

And I am asking you for scaled-up investments in nature to achieve your government’s historic commitments to protect 25 per cent of land and ocean by 2025 and 30 per cent by 2030. This funding is crucial for saving species from collapse and extinction, advancing reconciliation, contributing to nature-based climate solutions, and preserving Canada’s landscapes and ecosystems for future generations.

These investments in protection and stewardship must be in areas - land, sea and watersheds - with the potential for the highest positive impact on habitat for species in decline and for climate. As a constituent in your riding, I am asking you to vote for strong investments in climate and biodiversity before it’s too late.
