Environmentalists say oilsands wetlands policy 'unacceptably weak'
Environmental conservation groups are calling Alberta's policy for reclaiming wetland areas destroyed by oilsands development "unacceptably weak" even before the province has approved or released it.
Yesterday the Sierra Club released a leaked draft copy of the government's wetland policy, dated August 2009.
The policy, when finalized, will set guidelines for how oil producers are expected to restore wetlands, and it will set the bar for how much restoration needs to take place once oilsands production is complete.
