Send a Message: Stop the Financing of Gas Plants

As the National Observer reports “[Crown Corporation] Export Development Canada provided between $100 million and $200 million in project financing for the gas-fired plant that will power [U.S. corporation] Meta’s data centre in Sturgeon County, Alta.,” This is not an isolated incident but part of a wider Federal Government approach to build out gas plants for AI data centres so as to create demand for gas – to benefit U.S. ownedaligned oil and gas interests who want more demand for their product.

In the midst of yet another horrific wildfire season the Federal Government made multiple cuts to our capacity to address wildfires – including nearly half the jobs at nerve centre for managing wildfires. Any public or crown corporation financing should be directed towards renewables for people – not gas plants for data centres.

Send a message to Right Honourable Mark Carney, Energy and Environment Ministers, Export Development Canada, and Opposition Leaders using the form here and also call your MP.

Then speak with others around you about what’s happening and oppose any attempt to build a gas plant where you live.
