The Ontario government’s passage of Bill 5 marks a dangerous shift—away from responsibility, and toward unchecked power. Bill 5 grants provincial leaders sweeping authority to override environmental, municipal, and social protections—without transparency, consent, or accountability to the Indigenous Nations most impacted. It strips vital protections from endangered species and their habitats. These aren’t technical details—they are lifeways, kinships, and places of regeneration. When they are erased, life disappears.

For Indigenous Nations, this is yet another chapter in a long story of colonization, broken promises, and dispossession—now rebranded as “resilience.”
