Celebrating Over 80 episodes: The Environment in Canada Podcast marks milestone with new sub-series
Media Release: For immediate release November 18th, 2025
There is no denying that Canada is facing overlapping environmental crises—climate change induced wildfires and floods, biodiversity loss, and waste—and also opportunities such as the energy transition, progress towards the Rights of Nature, and environmental entrepreneurism. More to the point, we are facing all these in the midst of challenges to Canada’s sovereignty—and Canadians need trustworthy, practical information and resources now more than ever.
Sierra Club Canada’s The Environment in Canada podcast has reached an important milestone: over 80 episodes of accessible, in-depth interviews and solutions-oriented content on today’s most pressing environmental and social issues. Each helps Canadians understand what is at stake and how to have more positive conversations. The podcast serves as a crucial resource at a time when climate misinformation and disinformation are spreading faster than ever and accurate and actionable information are harder to find.
One of the most recent episodes outlines the economic faults and local health risks of LNG development in Canada. The Podcast also recently expanded to include several episodes in French, as well as episodes hosted by members of their Sierra Youth chapter.
“Reaching 80 episodes is really a moment to celebrate the many guests, storytellers, and listeners who’ve helped make the podcast a place for clear, evidence-based conversations about the environment in Canada,” says Conor Curtis, Head of Communications at Sierra Club Canada. “Our goal has always been to lift up frontline voices, break down and explain complex policy in plain language, and inspire action, and this milestone shows how hungry Canadians are for that kind of content and storytelling.”
Since its launch, The Environment in Canada Podcast has covered climate change and climate action, environmental justice, biodiversity and species protection, music, nature, Canada Post, outdoor education and exploration, and more—in ways that connect policy, place, and people across the country.
The podcast was also one of the first platforms to raise alarm back in early January about the seriousness of U.S. threats towards Canadian sovereignty. This continues to be the focus of their recently launched sub-series, Sovereignty Saturdays, which examines the environmental and energy dimensions of Canadian sovereignty. Episodes so far explore defending democracy and resisting authoritarian influence; how extreme inequality and deregulation fuel democratic backsliding; the role of social media, communications, and civic organizing in advancing environmental and social justice; and why the U.S. administration pressured the IEA into publishing an outlandish oil demand scenario—all while offering concrete ways listeners can take action.
“Podcasts let us go deeper than a phone call or a short news item—they let people listen and actually learn something on the go,” says Melody Li, Communications Assistant at Sierra Club Canada and editor of several episodes in the podcast. “Having listened to several podcasts myself as a podcast editor, I think it goes without saying that these conversations are critical if we want to gain valuable perspectives and insights from leading experts and from those directly impacted by the issues that disproportionately affect them—and to keep amplifying voices that too often go unheard.”
Sierra Club Canada invites Canadians to celebrate this milestone by listening to an episode, sharing it with friends, and tuning in to a Sovereignty Saturdays episode on a timely topic on some Saturdays. You can find the episodes on
